One of the best things about living in Southern California is the endless list of things to do and places to explore. Here are just a few of my favorites.

Venice Float Lab
A surreal experience located, no surprise, just off the Venice Boardwalk, Float Lab is a good if strange place to forget your troubles for a couple of hours.
You’ll shower in and shower out and, in between you’ll get in this huge isolation chamber filled with 800lbs of Epsom salt dissolved in about 12 inches of warm water. The chamber is completely sealed, warm and pitch black inside - but don’t worry about feeling claustrophobic. The tank is big enough that I could stand in it easily and, when floating, stretch my arms out over my head and still not have both my fingers and toes touch the walls. (I’m 5’9”.)
You pay for a 2 hour session ($40, cash only) but an hour was all I needed to leave there feeling completely relaxed and ready to start my day.
Effortlessly floating is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. If you’re up for trying something new, it’s worth a stop.

One of my favorite things in the world is a Saturday spent on Venice Beach. It’s everything you expect it to be and the people watching is unparalleled. You never know who - or what - you’ll run into along the boardwalk. The graffiti & performance artists, friends, tourists, oddly dressed locals and strange exotic creatures make for an entertaining day, every time. I can’t believe I live here!
