One of the best things about living in Southern California is the endless list of things to do and places to explore. Here are just a few of my favorites.

San Clemente Pier
An easy and relaxing day trip from LA, San Clemente is just a two hour train ride away on the Surfliner from Union Station.
Santa Monica Pier
A quintessential LA experience, the Santa Monica ferris wheel provides an amazing view of the beach.
Mother’s Beach
I heard someone describe this Marina Del Rey beach as a “park with sand” as opposed to a true beach - and that’s about right. It’s not on the ocean and there are no waves coming in, but it’s a great place to play beach volleyball, learn to stand up paddle, BBQ - or bring the kids.
Parking is available right across Palawan Way and there are several restaurants just off the sand if you’d prefer not to mess with a grill.
Pismo Beach
On my wish list for this summer: riding an ATV on the Pismo Beach sand dunes.
Crystal Cove Beach
A great little stop in Corona Del Mar. Be sure to hit the Shake Shack while you’re there for a date shake.
American Ninja Warrior
Filmed on the Venice Boardwalk this weekend. Seems to be a combination of Wipeout and American Gladiators??
Neptune’s Net
Unassuming, amusing and packed with surfers, yuppies and bikers alike, Neptune’s Net is worth the (gorgeous!) drive up to northern Malibu.
Some friends took me here when trying to convince me to move to town. And now another is hoping to squeeze in a visit before she moves away. It’s that kind of place. I love it…and I’m far from what you’d call a seafood lover.
Tip: make a day of it and hunt for starfish at Leo Carrillo Beach on your way back to LA.
